An Interview with Fine Artist and Brand Designer Cynthia Oswald

I had the pleasure of interviewing Cynthia who will be joining Emily Mullet and myself at Studio #5 Chester County Studio Tour. Cynthia is the type of person who creates a warmth wherever she is and this threads so beautifully into the work she creates. During this interview we discuss how her childhood memories on a farm, exploring her natural environment (and all the little critters who call it home), and the strength of trusting her own intuition helped create the current work she is producing.

A few of my favorite tidbits from our interview:

“I love patterns, specifically in nature and it always had this ability to put me into a trance, to be in the present moment observing. Patterns also show up in my life and it becomes symbolic. I haven’t always listened to them but as I get older I realize they’re there for a reason - they’re there to guide me.”

“[This work] is about trusting myself, and then being intentional about what I'm cultivating in my life.”

“I spent a ton of time in the field behind my parents' home. There were natural springs and the terrain around there was very different. You could feel like you were in a lot of different places, just on one horseback ride.”

Grab a cup of coffee and take a listen to the interview above and what inspires Cynthia to create.
